In 1974, amidst the bustling construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, a small but determined venture named NANA Commercial Catering was born. This was the beginning of what would become NANA Management Services (NMS). From providing essential food services to the hardworking individuals in remote camps, our journey was set on a course of growth, innovation, and commitment to excellence.
Fast forward to 1986, the company, then under the stewardship of NANA Development Corporation (NDC), joined forces with Mannings Alaska, expanding our services to include the pipeline camps at Deadhorse and Sheep Creek. This strategic move not only solidified our presence in the industry but also attracted the attention of Marriott, leading to a transformative acquisition and the birth of NANA Marriott.
The year 1997 marked our entry into the hospitality sector with the opening of Courtyard Anchorage Airport, the first Marriott hotel franchise under NDC. This expansion was not just about adding a hotel to our portfolio but diversifying our service offerings and setting new standards in hospitality management.
Our story took another significant turn in 1998 when Sodexo, a global leader in food services, joined forces with NDC. This partnership led to the creation of NANA Management Services, LLC (NMS), as we know it today. The integration of Purcell Security into our operations further expanded our capabilities, enabling us to offer a comprehensive suite of management services.
Today, NMS stands out as the premier provider of support services, leading the way in food service, facilities management, security, and more. We have expanded our reach across Alaska and the contiguous United States, powered by a strong team of over 2,000 employees, including more than 300 NANA shareholders.
